Hurricanes Storm Past  Bobcats 71-64

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team (13-11, 8-9 PBC) beat Georgia College (9-17, 3-14 PBC) Saturday night at the Centennial Center.

Josh Birchfield led GSW with 24 points followed by Deric Rudolph with 12 and Damien Leonard added 11. Cameron Venus helped the Hurricanes by scooping up a career-best 10 rebounds.

Georgia College made the first two baskets of the game to take the lead but Birchfield put in two lay ups followed by Rudolph with a 3-pointer to take a one point lead. For the majority of the first half the lead was decided by a basket or two. With 8:03 on the clock Georgia College put in the four baskets to take a six point lead. Rudolph and Kevin Burnell both put in 3-pointers to try and close the gap but Georgia College kept the lead with a jump shot and a lay up. In the last four minutes Birchfield put in three lay ups and two free throws along with Burnell with a 3-pointer and Darius Hoisten with two free throws to tie the game at half time 38-38.

The second half was just as much of a tug of war as the first with lead changing almost every other basket. The lead didn't grow greater than two points until 11:41 left when Birchfield put in two lay ups and a jump shot followed by Redding with two  baskets and Leonard with a 3-pointer to take an eleven point lead.

GSW was able to keep the lead and win 71-64.

GSW out rebounded Georgia College 31-26 and had 11 points off turn overs. The game was tied up 6 times and the lead changed 15 times.

The Hurricanes are back on the road Wednesday to face North Georgia at 7:30 p.m.
