Men's Basketball Ranked Top 10 In The Southeast Region

AMERICUS, Ga.- The latest NCAA DII Southeast Regional ranking puts the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team at 10th in the nation. The Southeast Region consists of three conferences; the Peach Belt Conference, Conference Carolinas and South Atlantic.

These three conferences combined have a a total of thirty-seven teams. Six of the top ten teams came from the PBC including No. 2 UNC Pembroke, No. 4 Montevallo, No. 5 GRU Augusta , No. 6 Columbus State, No. 8 Lander and GSW at No. 10.

The 2014-15 season was a strong one for GSW despite having a rough start losing their first five conference games. The Hurricanes were able to turn it around and finish with a winning season (15-12). The men won five of their last six regular season games to get a spot in the PBC tournament quarterfinal where they played a very tough and competitive game verse UNC Pembroke. The game stayed close but GSW lost by five points bringing their season to an end.

Aside from a winning record and an appearance in the PBC quarterfinals GSW had two NCAA era school records broken. Deric Rudolph broke the GSW school record for most 3-pointers in one season with a new total of 108. The old record of 88 was held by Anthony Sargent from the 2007-08 team. Darius Redding moved into the top spot for most assists in one season at GSW with 129.
