Sessions Starts New Year With Peach Belt Conference Honor

AMERICUS, Ga. -- After a stellar week to begin 2018, Georgia Southwestern State University guard R.J. Sessions has been named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball.

Sessions led the Hurricanes with 21 points while adding eight rebounds in an 88-82 OT win at Young Harris on Saturday. That followed a 19 point, seven rebound effort Wednesday as GSW got its first overtime win of the week, 85-82, against Georgia College.

Shooting 7 of 11 (64 percent) from long range for the week, Sessions hit a clutch 3-pointer to go along with game-sealing free throws at the end of each game.

This is the first GSW men's basketball Conference Player of the Week award since Adam Thoseby was honored on February 15, 2016. Sessions is the 12th Hurricane selection since beginning Division II play in 2006-2007.

Sessions is averaging a team high 15.5 points per game on the season and is third on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game. He's 23 of 24 (95.8 percent) from the free throw line this season.

GSW (7-3, 3-3 PBC) hosts Columbus State and Francis Marion at home this week.
