AMERICUS, Ga. -- Hasaan Buggs crawled all over the Columbus State University men's basketball team in the Storm Dome on Wednesday evening as he posted his fifth consecutive double-double and tied a program record with six blocks to lead Georgia Southwestern State University to an 83-72 victory. The Hurricanes improved to 8-3 overall and picked up their fourth straight Peach Belt Conference win (4-3) while Columbus State suffered its fourth loss in five games and fell to 3-7, 3-4 in the PBC. 

How It Happened: The Hurricanes eclipsed their previous best shooting effort of the season, which was turned in Saturday, by connecting on 30 of 54 shots to finish over 50 percent for the second consecutive game (55.6 percent), and aided by Buggs' six, finished with seven blocks in the game, their most in nearly four years (Jan. 23, 2014).  

With 3-pointers on back-to-back scoring possessions for the Hurricanes by Devin Watson and R.J. Sessions, GSW took the lead, 13-10, with 13:49 left in the first half and never relinquished it. GSW led by as many as 10 points on four occasions before the break, but settled in for a 40-33 advantage at the half.

A 3-pointer by Watson opened the scoring in the second half and the Hurricanes maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the way, eventually stretching the margin to a game-high 17 points with 4:53 to play. 

GSW pulled down five more rebounds than Columbus State (37-32) and made the most of second chance opportunities, outscoring the Cougars in that category, 18-8. 

Who Stood Out: Sessions, the reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, made 7 of 10 shots, including 3 of 6 from long range, and finished with 19 points. Buggs matched Sessions with 19 points and added a game-high 14 rebounds. His six blocks matches the GSW NCAA era record set by All-American Phillip Brown on March 1, 2011. Quenten Taylor led all players with eight assists and added 14 points. He sank 8 of 9 from the free throw line. Watson chipped in 10 points.
