Hurricanes Complete Huge Comeback for First Win

AMERICUS, Ga. --The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team defeated the Albany State Golden Rams for the first win of the season on Wednesday night. This was the Hurricanes' second matchup of the season, losing the first matchup to the Golden Rams in Americus.

A similar result seemed to be brewing as the Hurricanes started slow shooting 32.9% overall and just 11.1% from beyond the arc. Turnovers were a problem early for the Hurricanes as well, having 12 turnovers to just seven for the Golden Rams. The Golden Rams late in the first half went on a run and took a 12 point lead into the break.

The Hurricanes came out in the second half at an unbelievable pace taking the 12 point halftime deficit down to just one point with an 11-0 run to start the second half. The three-minute 30-second run put the Hurricanes right back into a game they looked lost in for most of the first half. The scoring on that 11-0 run was spread out between four different players. The scoring run ended on a three-pointer by the Golden Rams followed by a made free throw stretching the game out to a five-point game. Brady Rankin responded with two key three-pointers back to back to tie the game at 40.

The game after that point was a back and forth battle with the Hurricanes holding on after a halfcourt shot to tie the game by Kevin Perry of the Golden Rams rimmed out. The Hurricanes get their first win of the season and look to continue that momentum this weekend at the Lander University Classic.
