Gibson qualifies for Canadian Amateur Championship for second straight year

STONY POINT, Alberta – Georgia Southwestern golfer Craig Gibson has qualified for the Canadian Amateur Championship for the second consecutive year. Gibson, a native of Brooks, Alberta, finished in eighth at the qualifying tournament at Stony Point Country Club.

"I played really solid for three of the four days. On the second day, I had it going and was 5-under through 15 holes but doubled the 16th and three-putted the 17th. For the most part I'm fairly pleased with the week," said Gibson. "If I could have cleaned up the mistakes, I could have easily been in contention. However, it was my best ever finish at the Alberta Amateur, and I achieved my goal of qualifying for the Canadian Amateur again."

The senior capped his phenomenal tournament with birdies on two of the final three holes. His success on Par 4's was evident when Gibson finished with the fourth most birdies on Par 4's in the tournament, which began with over 100 players.

With qualifying now behind him, Gibson is looking forward to the Canadian Amateur Championship with a simple mindset.

"My goal is to have some fun and make some birdies and see what happens"
