'Canes dominate Day 2 at Kiawah Island

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -  The Georgia Southwestern golf team fired a tournament-low 1-under 287 final round at the Seventh Annual Kiawah Island Invitational on Tuesday to surge nine spots up the leaderboard and finish in seventh place out of 21 teams.

No. 20 Barton College carded a 289 final round and won the championship with an overall 582 score. USC Beaufort took second with a 584 (293-291). The 'Canes finished ahead of three nationally-ranked teams (No. 19 Indianapolis, No. 23 USC Aiken and No. 17 Belmont Abbey).

Individually for GSW, junior Craig Gibson tied for third place in the 105-player field after finishing with a 1-under 143 (72-71). Nate Gahman tied for 26th with a 5-over 149 (76-73). JP Griffin shaved nine strokes off his Monday score and fired the low score for GSW on Day 2, finishing tied with Gahman at 26th (79-70). John Wilson Gordon was also nine strokes better on the second day, finishing with a 155 (82-73). Reese Moseley shot a 165 (82-83).

The Hurricanes begin play at the Darton Invitational in Albany on Monday (Sept. 13).
