COLUMBUS - The 21st-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team was unable to capitalize on a strong Round 2 comeback and slid to 11th place on the final day of the Aflac/Cougar Invitational at the par-71, 6,515-yard Country Club of Columbus.

The Hurricanes 304 score in Round 3 was the highest team total of the day and third-highest of the tournament. GSW posted the second-highest score in Round 1 with a 305 but rebounded with a 289 in Round 2.

J.P. Griffin tied for 16th overall in the 90-player field with a 7-over-par 220 total. Griffin opened Round 2 with three-consecutive birdies, including one on Hole #2 which was birdied only four times the entire tournament.

Nate Gahman finished with a 226 for the Hurricanes. Gahman dropped 10 birdies over the two days which tied for fifth-most in the tournament.

Matthew Whittaker finished with a 230. Anders Olsson was a shot back of Whittaker at 231 and Andrew Ritchot carded a 234.

No. 15 Florida Southern (11-over-par 863) held off host Columbus State (867) for the team title.

Jesse Gibson from Columbus State fired three rounds of 70 to win the individual championship with a 3-under-par.

GSW returns to the links on Monday (10/8) for the Indian Bayou Intercollegiate hosted by North Alabama at Indian Bayou Golf Club in Destin, Fla.
