Hurricanes 15th After Day 1 At Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Georgia Southwestern golf team shot a 16-over par 304 on Monday to finish Day 1 of the season-opening 17-team Kiawah Island Invitational in 15th place. Nick Ward and Anders Olsson led the Hurricanes with rounds of 2-over-par 74 to tie for 40th in the 85-player field.

Newcomer Fraser Johnston finished three strokes behind Ward and Olsson on the 6,875 yard, par 72 Cougar Point Golf Course with a 5-over 77.

Southwestern sits 27 strokes behind the leader, 20th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University, and 22 shots back from second place, held by No. 11 North Alabama and No. 6 USC Aiken. Spencer Schindler from Flagler College and Chris Fuga from Coker College tied for the low round of the day with a 67.

Nick Ray carded a 79 in his first appearance with the Hurricanes. Freshman Jordan Baker added an 82.

GSW returns to the links on Tuesday starting at 9:10 a.m. for the final round in Kiawah Island.
