CONOVER, N.C. - The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team fired the low round Tuesday in the 21-team field and moved up a slot to finish in second place at the two-day, two-round Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational on the Jones Course at Rock Barn Golf & Spa.

"I am very happy with this tournament and very proud of how the guys handled themselves," GSW head coach Darcy Donaldson said. "Obviously we wanted to win, but we ended a great semester with a great tournament."

GSW had three individuals finish in the Top 10 out of a field of 104 competitors.

Nicholas Ward led the way for GSW, earning all-tournament honors as he finished in a tie for third place with a 146 (74-72) total. Fraser Johnston was two shots behind Ward and tied for seventh, the best finish in his collegiate career, with rounds of 72 and 76.

Chris Low shaved five strokes off his Round 1 score with an even par 72 on Tuesday at the par-72, 6960-yard course and finished tied for 10th. Anders Olsson knocked five strokes off is Round 1 score as well and ended the tournament with a 7-over 151 to tie for 22nd, his best finish of the fall season. Hayes Dupree carded a 161 total.

The Hurricanes topped team champion Chico State by a stroke on Tuesday but fell four shots shy overall as the 4th-ranked Wildcats finished with a 14-over 590. The tournament field included six schools ranked in the Top 25.

Lee Gearhart from Chico State fired a 5-under 139 to capture the individual title.

GSW resumes competition February 16 when it kicks off the spring season at the Newberry College Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C.
