Nationally Ranked GSW Golf Heads To PBC Championship In Greenwood S.C.

AMERICUS, Ga.- The latest series of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Regional Golf Poll were released recently, with the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes in the No. 3 spot in the Southeast Region.

The 'Canes are one of five Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools on the region list. USC Aiken is No. 1, with Flagler College second, Columbus State University No. 4 and Georgia College No. 9.

Wingate University from the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) is positioned fifth, followed by North Greenville University, Erskine College and Limestone College, all from the Conference Carolinas (CC). CC member the University of Mount Olive rounds out the top-10.

This poll is used to determine the seven Southeast Region at-large bids to the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional. The conference tournament winners from the PBC, SAC and CC all receive automatic bids.  

GSW will tee off Friday in round one of three at the PBC Tournament in Greenwood, S.C. The men have already played at the par-72, 6,851-yard Greenwood Country Club back in March at the Bearcat Invitational and placed sixth with an overall team score of 865 in the 3 Round, 54-hole tournament. The 'Canes were 32 strokes behind the leader, Flagler, who won the tournament with a team score of 833. Georgia College was second in the tournament with a score of 858 and Columbus was third with an overall total of 859.

Nicholas Ward, Chris Low, Anders Olsson, Hayes Dupree and Fraser Johnston have played in nine tournaments throughout the 2014-15 season and have all recorded 25 rounds.

Ward is ranked 39th in the NCAA DII GolfStat rankings and leads the Hurricanes with a 72.88 average, his lowest round being a 66. Throughout the season Ward has placed in a top-ten finish five times and in a top-five finish three times.

Low is ranked 63rdin the NCAA DII GolfStat rankings averaging 73.28 for the season and hitting a low round of 68. Low has won one tournament, has been in the top-five once and the top-ten five times this season.

Olsson has averaged 75.52 so far this season and has recorded a low round of 70. Dupree is averaging 75.60 for the season and has a 71 for his lowest round. Johnston's average is 75.68 and his lowest round of the season is a 69.

"The last few weeks I have seen a great improvement in different areas for each of the guys," commented head coach Darcy Donaldson, "Our best golf is yet to come and I am very excited to see what this group will do in the Peach Belt Championships."
