No. 16 Golf Heads To NCAA DII Regionals

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.- The nationally ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team will compete in the 20-team, 54-hole 2016 NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Regional Championships at Mission Inn Resort and Club May 2-4.

The tournament will be played at the 99-year-old El Campeón Golf Course which was rated the second-best course in the nation and the best in Florida for 2015 by Golf Advisor, the leading website community of reviewers.

The event will consist of 18-holes each day. The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 17-21, at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colorado. The finals will be hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver.

The South/Southeast region has the toughest field of the four regional tournaments. The 20-team field has won a combined 28 NCAA Division II National Championships since 1978, including each of the last four. Of the 20 teams in the South/Southeast region 15 are ranked in the Top-25 Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, the other ten teams are spread out through the three other regions.

The Hurricanes received the No. 5 seed out of the Southeast region.The rest of the SE is made up of five other Peach Belt Schools, No. 11 USC Aiken, No. 12 Flagler College, No. 19 Columbus State, Young Harris and Lander University. Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial, Limestone College and North Greenville make up the rest.

The South Region consist of No. 2 Lynn, No. 3 Florida Southern, No. 4 St. Leo, No. 5 West Florida, No. 6 Nova Southern, No. 7 Barry, No 8. Lee, No. 17 West Georgia, North Alabama and Miles College.

The eight individuals are Nick Adams from University of Mount Olive, Will Bundy from Coker, Alex Clark from Delta State, Keith Egan from Clayton State, Brad Hawkins from Tusculum, Reed Lindsey from Delta, Chris Rodgers from Valdosta State and Gaelen Trew from Florida Tech.

GSW will tee off on hole 10 for Round 1. Fraser Johnson will tee off at 8:20 a.m. followed by Anders Olsson at 8:30 a.m. then Hayes Dupree at 8:40, Nicholas Ward at 8:50 a.m. and Ethan Chamineak at 9 a.m.
