'Canes NCAA DII Top-25 Streak Carries On

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team was ranked 19th in the recent Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll that came out Friday. The Hurricanes have now been ranked in NCAA Division II Top-25 for 556 consecutive days.

GSW played in 11 tournaments this season and recorded ten top-10 finishes, two being tournament wins. The men started their season off winning the Full Moon BBQ Invitational and took their second win at the Newberry College Invitational at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island. GSW placed runner up at their own Hurricane Invitational and were fourth at the PBC championships, tying their best PBC finish.

The 'Canes finished their season placing eighth of 20 teams at the NCAA DII South/Southeast Regional Championship. They were second of all the Peach Belt Conference teams competing and were also second of all the DII schools from the state of Georgia.

The 2015-16 Hurricanes saw a lot of success this season and etched themselves into the program record book quite a few times.

At the Full Moon BBQ Invitational Ethan Chamineak, Hayes Dupree, Nicholas Ward, Tyler Barker and Anders Olsson broke the team low 36 hole with a 564 (280-284). The same five posted a 568 (279-289) at the McDonough Cup and a 571 (284-285) at the North Georgia Fall Invitational to take the second and third lowest team 36 holes as well.

The 'Canes also broke the team low 54 hole at the North Georgia Fall Invitational with an 849 (284-285-280) and at the McDonough Cup fired a 279 to tie the second best team low round in GSW NCAA era history.

On the individual side the Hurricanes saw just as much success. Barker was named co-freshman of the year, the first 'Cane to do so, and posted his lowest round of 69 in the final round at the Newberry College Invitational where he captured his first collegiate win.

Chamineak was named to the PBC All-Conference first team and finish tied for second at the PBC championship which placed him as the highest individual conference finish in GSW history. He won the Hurricane Invitational and tied the second lowest individual 36 hole score with a 137 (69-68) which he posted at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational.

Ward became the first Hurricane in any sport to win the PBC Elite 15 Award and was named to the PBC All-Conference second team. He was also named to the PBC All-Academic Team.

Olsson broke the most rounds played in a career record this season with 115. He too was was named to the PBC All-Academic Team.
