Anderson, S.C. -- Georgia Southwestern men's golf freshman Elias Birkeland posted a 1-over par 73, and senior Nix Duncan shot a 2-over par 74 to give GSW the tournament lead after Round 1 of the Anderson University Invitational at Cobb's Glen Country Club Monday.     

The Hurricanes posted a 307 in Round 1 on the par 72, 6,961-yard course to take a one stroke lead over host Anderson (308).  

Bob Jones University currently sits in third (317), followed by Emmanuel College GA (319), Erskine College B (320), Brevard College (321), and Spartanburg Methodist College (329).

Wil Hernandez finished Round 1 tied for 10th with a 6-over 78, while Ryan Cahill shot a 10-over par 82 and Oly Brown turned in an 11-over 83 to place tied for 25th and 30th, respectively.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for Round 2.
