GSW Hosts Third Annual Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's golf team is set to host the third annual Hurricane Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Doublegate Country Club in Albany.

The Hurricanes return as the defending champions on the 7,024 yard Par 72 course and will be challenged by the biggest field in the tournament's short history.

GSW will be joined by 12 other schools, including Peach Belt Conference foes North Georgia, Clayton State and Young Harris. Other participants will be West Georgia, Dominican College NY, University of Illinois-Springfield, Brewton Parker College, Abraham Baldwin College, Georgia Military College, Albany State, Bob Jones University and Emmanuel College.

The Hurricanes are coming off a fifth place finish at last week's 19-team Newberry College Invitational at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. that included a loaded field of five nationally-ranked teams.

No. 12 Columbus State (857) won the tournament, followed by No. 24 South Carolina Aiken (865), No. 9 Newberry College (887), No. 25 Barton College (894) and Georgia Southwestern/SE Oklahoma State (895).

Vincent Norrman led GSW with rounds of 69, 72, 71 (212) to finish 4-under par and share 3rd place on the individual leaderboard, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Tyler Barker (224) finished tied for 25th overall for the Hurricanes and Ryan Cahill (231) was knotted in the 53rd position while Elias Birkeland (233) and Nix Duncan (241) finished tied for 61st and 84th, respectively.
