DEARBORN, Mich. — The seventh-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a 12-under-par 276 on Monday in the final round of the Motor City Invitational hosted by Wayne State University to finish 1st place out of 15 teams. The 36-hole event was played at TPC of Michigan (Par 72, 7,056 Yards) and the Hurricanes have now won a tournament at the site of the 2022 NCAA National Championships.
Simon Estrada had the Hurricanes' low score of the day and tournament with a 4-under 68 and 6-under for the tournament. Estrada posted four birdies and zero bogeys on Monday. He finished 2nd overall for the tournament jumping up 5 spots in the final round.
Payne Sells was two strokes back of Estrada and finished second on the team and was tied for fourth overall with a final round of 69. Saksit Jairak, playing as an individual, finished third overall on the team and was tied for a seventh-place overall just one stroke back of Payne Sells. Alex Wells finished tied for 12th with rounds of 74 and 69. Chase McLain shot a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 17th jumping 13 spots in the final round. Jack Tharrington shot a 72 to finish tied for 22nd. Nicolas Escobar rounded out the GSW golfers with a final round of 74.
The Hurricanes finished with a final score of (564) and closed the day with two golfers in the top five overall and 3 of the top seven. GSW finished ahead of the runner-up and host, Wayne State, by five strokes and posted a tournament-best 276 as their team score in the final round. Charles Delong, of Grand Valley State, won the individual honors as he finished 9-under for the tournament.
