VALDOSTA, Ga. — The 11th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a total of 287 to finish 5th on Tuesday at the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State University. The Hurricanes posted a three-round total of 871 in the third tournament of the spring season and moved up three spots in the final round. As a team, the Hurricanes finished one-under on the day, one of just two teams that shot below par in the final round. The 18-team tournament played at the par-72, 7,481-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club features 12 programs ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golfstat computer rankings, including top-ranked Barry University which finished 10th in the event.
Simon Estrada led the Hurricanes with rounds of 72 for all three rounds to finish tied for 14th place in the 90-player field on Tuesday. Estrada posted one birdie and one bogey in his final round on Tuesday shooting for par consistently all day.
Erik Fogel improved from his opening round 72 and his second round of 75 in the afternoon to climb 15 spots in the standings and end the tournament tied for 20th. Nicolas Escobar finished with a final round of 73 finishing tied for 30th overall and tied for third on the team. Jack Tharrington finished 30th as well, tied with Escobar overall, and finished one stroke ahead of Escobar in the final round on Tuesday. Chase McLain carded a 78 on the day to round out the Hurricanes lineup.
No. 4 Lincoln Memorial finished the day atop the team standings at three-under with Columbus State finishing second after ending the day tied for the lead on Monday. Jordan Doull from Columbus State University won the individual championship at six-under-par.
The Hurricanes will compete next in the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College in Eatonton, Ga.
