Escobar Leads #12 GSW to Runner-Up Finish at Spring Kickoff

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fl. — The No. 12 Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a finish 6-under-par 282 in the final round of the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate to finish in second place out of 17 teams. The tournament, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University, was played at the par-72, 7,236-yard St. Johns Golf and Country Club and featured five programs ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golf Coaches Association of America coaches poll.

Nicolas Escobar led the Hurricanes with a 69 in Round 3 as he birdied three of his last five holes. Escobar tied for third in the 95-player field with a 212 overall. Chase McLain fired a 73 in Round 2, finished 10th after a 70 in round 3. McLain finished the event tied for sixth scoring 2-under. Erik Fogel matched McLain on hole 12 where they both birdied. Fogel finished tied for 22nd with a 2-over 218. Jack Tharrington tied for 47th. Payne Sells competed as an individual and finished with a 230 to tie for 68th.

#1 ranked Anderson University fired a 7-under 281 in the final round to cruise to a 16-stroke victory. GSW jumped over #8 North Georgia and and grabbed second place. Calahan Keever from Anderson won the individual title after defeating Andrew Riley from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Keever closed out the tournament at 17-under and Anderson finished 9-under

The Hurricanes are idle for a week before resuming their spring schedule on February 27th, as they host the Hurricane Invitational in Albany, Ga
