DAVIE, Fla. — The eighth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted an even 284 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional on Thursday at the par 71 6,725 yard Grande Oaks Golf Club. GSW finished the day in 11th place out of 20 teams. The Hurricanes had one player in the Top 10 of the 107-player field. 

Payne Sells led the Hurricanes on Day 1 with a 4-under par 71 to sit in a tie for third place. Sells birdied four holes on the front nine and birdied two holes on the back nine. A bogey on his 12th hole dropped him back to 3-under but birdied on his 15th hole to end the day 4-under. 

Nicolas Escobar and Chase McLain ended the day even par 71 tieing for 38th. Escobar had a tough front nine he fired a 1-over and boogied on two holes he performed better on the back nine shot a 1-under to end his day at even. The opposite was true for McLain he exited the front nine 1-under but struggled in the back nine he boogied two holes.

Erik Fogel ended the day 4-over with pars on his first two holes he was not bale to keep up the same scoring for the rest of the round he sits tied for 90th. 

Jack Tharrington pared the first four holes on the day he was not able to keep the momentum going as he finished the day 6-over tied for 98th.
