ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Low scores were hard to come by on Tuesday in the final round of the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial University. The eighth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a 309 (+21) to slip three spots in the standings from Day 1 and finish in fourth place at the 20-team event played at the par-72, 7,136-yard St. Johns Golf & Country Club which featured seven programs ranked in the Top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings. Only two schools posted a team score under 300 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes had two players finish inside the Top 10 of the 103-player field. 

Newcomer Mateo Quiroga carded the low score for the Hurricanes in the final round with a 4-over 76. Quiroga jumped 12 spots in the individual standings to end the event tied for 63rd. Payne Sells was the other GSW golfer to move up on the final day. Sells shot a 77 to finish up a spot at 23rd. Erik Fogel had the best overall finish for the Hurricanes, coming in tied for eighth. Fogel matched Sells with a score of 77 on Tuesday. Joao Costa tied for 10th in his GSW debut. Costa shot a 79 in the final round. Jack Tharrington tied for 44th.

The top-ranked team in the country, North Georgia, won the event with an 11-over par. Bernard Meyer from Columbus State won the individual title with a 4-under 212, two strokes ahead of a trio of golfers.

Next up for the Hurricanes is a trip to Borrego Springs, Calif., for the Battle in the Desert on Feb. 26.
