EATONTON, Ga. -- The fourth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team successfully defended its title as the team champion at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College & State University, pulling away from the 15-team field on Tuesday to win by seven strokes at The Golf Club at Cuscowilla. The Hurricanes were the only team in a loaded field that included nine teams in the Top 25 of the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings from Clippd to shoot under par on the par-70, 6,701-yard course in the final round. GSW placed three individuals in the Top 10 overall. Erik Fogel, the current Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week, led the Hurricanes with an even par for the tournament and finished tied for third out of 81 golfers.

Fogel knocked down an eagle on his par 4 16th hole on Tuesday to help move up three spots on the leaderboard from where he started the round. Fogel played his final 10 holes at 5-under and carded a 68 on Tuesday. He finished two strokes behind Will Chambless from the University of North Georgia for individual medalist honors. Joao Costa scored his 68 in Round 2, but held his position on the leaderboard with an even par round to close out the event. Costa finished tied for sixth at 2-over. Payne Sells climbed 10 spots on the final day to register his second Top 10 finish of the year. Sells finished at 4-over to tie for eighth place. Mateo Quiroga made the largest jump up the leaderboard in Round 3 as he moved 11 spots to finish tied for 18th place at 7-over par. Jack Tharrington tied for 53rd.

The Hurricanes claimed their second championship of the school year, with the last victory coming in October at the Hurricane Invitational. 

A trip to the Argonaut Invitational hosted by the University of West Florida at Pensacola Country Club is up next for GSW on April 8.
