The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team stayed within one goal of #3 Tusculum College for 87 minutes, but a late goal by the Pioneers led to a 2-0 loss for the Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
The two teams were scoreless until the 34th minute when Horton McKinney scored in the middle of the box off a free kick from Scott Lucky.
A pair of nice passes setup the Hurricanes best shot at tying the game in the 71st minute, but a punch shot from freshman Jamie Kiep trickled just outside the left post. The Hurricanes were unable to get another good look the rest of the contest.
Tusculum (6-1) added a little insurance at the 87:59 mark when Lucas Paulini drilled a header into the upper left corner of the goal off a corner kick from Lucky.
Sophomore John Scharnikow had six saves for GSW. Lance Moore stopped one for Tusculum. The Pioneers outshot the Hurricanes 15-5 and led 7-3 in corner kicks.
GSW (1-7) hits road on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. match at Montevallo.
