Late goal spoils home opener

The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match with Florida Tech on Friday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

After 80 scoreless minutes, Florida Tech's Nick Robinson punched in a deflected shot from teammate Dean Faithful in front of the goal from eight yards out.

Tech, ranked No. 5 in the South region of the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas poll, outshot GSW 14-10 and held a slim 8-7 advantage in corner kicks.

GSW goalkeeper David Porley stopped nine. Panther goalie Derrick Hackett recorded the shutout with seven saves.

Jesse Davis, Sam Hooke and Derek Schicker led the 'Canes offense with two shots apiece.

Game two of the Hurricanes four-game homestand is Sunday against Eckerd College at 1 p.m.
