GSW starts conference play with another tough 1-0 loss

The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team dropped their Peach Belt Conference season opener, 1-0, to defending PBC champions Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

In the 37th minute, FMU's Adam Dillihay took a long pass down the middle of the field from teammate Justin Kibler and flicked it past GSW goalkeeper David Porley, who had come charging off the goal line.

While FMU outshot GSW 7-0 in the first half, the Hurricanes won the ball control battle in the second half and outshot the Patriots 9-3. Southwestern also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks for the match.

Porley stopped six for the 'Canes. FMU goalkeeper Clark Richeson recorded the shutout with three saves.

Jesse Davis led the 'Canes offense with four shots.

Saturday's 1-0 loss marks the third time GSW has lost by that score at home this season.

Game two of the Hurricanes three-game homestand is Saturday (10/3) against Lander at 3:30 p.m.
