Hurricanes lose home debut

AMERICUS, Ga. – It was a sour ending to the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes home debut as the Panthers of Florida Tech topped the Hurricane men's soccer team 2-0.

The game's first goal came in the 23rd minute when senior forward Nick Robinson gathered a pass from teammate Antoine Aupiasis inside the box and put a shot in past a sliding Cade Jones for the goal. Robinson's scoring strike would be the only scoring action of the first half.

The second half saw a couple of threatening runs by the Blue & Gold, but neither sophomore Ryan Wakenigg's header nor freshman Hunter Sams shot would put the Hurricanes on the board.

The Panthers would tally an additional goal in the 85th minute when freshman Drake Hillman scored from the middle of the box on a pass from Naru Wild-Putsorn.

With the loss the Hurricanes fall to 2-1-0 on the season, and they will return to action Wednesday September 14th at 3:30 p.m. at Hurricane Field. The match will be GSW's PBC opener as they will face Flagler College.
