Alabama-Huntsville overwhelms the GSW Hurricanes

Huntsville, Ala. – After losing back to back home matches, the GSW men's soccer team looked to a change in scenery for a positive result. The Hurricanes' trip west to the University of Alabama-Huntsville failed to give them that change. The Chargers (4-2-0) put away the Blue & Gold by a score of 5-0 on Saturday.

Alabama-Huntsville built a lead quickly with two goals in the first twenty six minutes of the game. Senior Mitchell Wilson's goal in the 21st minute and freshman Jarrod Muggleton's goal in the 26th minute gave UAH the 2-0 lead going into the half.

The Chargers would continue the offensive assault in the second half registering three more goals on seven shots. Kyle Simmons (59th minute), Oscar Leon (61st minute) and Brandon LeMier (86th minute) all found the back of the net in that second half. Simmons also registered an assist on teammate Jarrod Muggleton's goal in the first half.

The Alabama-Huntsville defense limited scoring opportunities for GSW throughout the shutout. Senior Shane McKay, junior Mauricio Chaves and junior Ross Sellers all registered a shot on goal in the losing effort. Junior KleesBatner Loembet-Makaya also fired off two shots.

The loss drops the Hurricanes to a mark of 2-3-0 on the season. They will look to rebound when they face Lincoln Memorial on September 21st at 4 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.
