Braves blank Hurricanes in Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team was looking to flip the script on their conference portion of their schedule after dropping their PBC opener to Flagler College in September. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes were unable to turn their Peach Belt fortunes around.

The game began at a grinding pace that saw 15 minutes pass before the game's first shot was taken. The game's scoring action began in the 31st minute when Pembroke's Stuart Rogers headed in the game's first goal off the assist from Sid Peterson. The Pembroke attack would strike again in under a minute when Sean Hoek ripped a shot from 30 yards out, to the far post, to give the Braves the 2-0 halftime lead.

Neither of the GSW shots in the first ten minutes of the second half (taken by Loembet-Makaya and Manga) were able to find the mark. The array shots for the GSW attack was indicative of the stalled offense tempo of the second half. A scoreless second half would give the match to UNC Pembroke by a score of 2-0. Cade Jones had nine saves between the pipes for the Blue & Gold as UNC Pembroke (7-2-0) held a massive advantage on shots on goal throughout the match.

Saturday's loss puts the GSW men to a mark of 2-6-1 (0-2-0). Coach Russ and company are back on the pitch on Wednesday, October 5th at 7 pm on the campus of LaGrange College.
