Sellers gives GSW "LaVictory" against LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. – After dropping their second conference match of the season against UNC Pembroke on Saturday, the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team was out for revenge on Wednesday. Their non-conference matchup against LaGrange College (1-8-0) would give the Hurricanes their revenge by a score of 1-0.

The Blue & Gold attack would begin in the seventh minute with a shot from Ryan Wakenigg. The Hurricanes registered four shots with one being on goal in the half. Kevin Huet's shot in the 31st minute was saved by LaGrange goalkeeper Kevin Folsom.

The scoreless tie would end in a hurry in the second half. Junior Ross Sellers would get GSW on the board just 33 seconds into the half. Sellers would take a pass from freshman Marcus Diaz and bury it in the back of the net. Freshman Hunter Sams looked to give the Hurricanes an insurance goal in the 66th minute, but his shot would be saved by Folsom.

GSW would outshoot the Panthers six to four in the second half and ten to five for the game. The 1-0 victory would be the first career victory and shutout for GSW freshman goalkeeper Garrett Blamire.

The win improves the Hurricanes' record to 3-6-1 (0-2-0 PBC). Coach Russ and company will be back on the pitch on Saturday, October 8th at 5:00 pm on the campus of USC Aiken.
