Men's soccer releases 2011 schedule

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head men's soccer coach Warren Russ has released the program's 2011 schedule that features six matches at home, seven on the road and three contests at neutral sites.

The Hurricanes open the season at the Barons Classic hosted by Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon on Sept. 2-3. GSW meets Southeastern (Fla.) on Friday and Johnson & Wales (Fla.) on Saturday.

The home opener for GSW comes on Sept. 11 against Florida Tech. On the 14th, the 'Canes open Peach Belt Conference play with a home match against Flagler. Sept. 17 the Hurricanes travel to Alabama-Huntsville before meeting Lincoln Memorial in Columbus on the 21st for first-ever match between the two schools. Another first-time matchup comes on the 25th, when GSW hosts Florida Memorial.

A match on the 28th at Thomas (Ga.) not only closes September, but begins a daugnting five-match road trip for the Hurricanes (at UNC Pembroke, LaGrange, USC Aiken) that concludes with a contest at PBC regular season co-champion Clayton State (Oct. 12). Waiting for the Hurricanes in Americus on the 15th, after 20 days away from Hurricane Field, is the other PBC co-champion from last season, Lander.

After a road trip to North Georgia on Oct. 19, the 'Canes end the regular season with a pair of home matches. Francis Marion faces GSW on the 22nd and Montevallo goes up against Southwestern one week later in the Senior Day finale.

The Peach Belt Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1 with the quarterfinals being played on the campus of the higher seed. The tournament moves to Blanchard Woods Park in Evans for semifinal and championship action on Nov. 4-6.
