Cullip Sets School Shutout Record In Draw

AMERICUS - Goalkeeper Joe Cullip pitched his second shutout in five matches as the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Concordia College on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Momentum shifted to GSW's end of the field in the second half as the Hurricanes doubled the shots taken by Concordia, 12-6. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, the GSW offense could not find the back of the net.

Shots attempted over the two overtime periods were even at 3-3.

Overall, the Hurricanes finished with a 21-10 advantage in shots while the Hornets held a marginal 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Cesar Espinoza fired a match-high five shots to lead the Hurricanes.

Cullip saved two in his record-setting performance. He now holds the GSW record for most shutouts by a goalie in a season. Fredy Mendoza saved six for Concordia (2-2-2).

Southwestern takes a 1-3-1 record into Saturday's Peach Belt Conference home match with No. 11 Lander University at 3:30 p.m.
