Hurricanes Taken Back by Bearcats

AMERICUS – Monday afternoon at Hurricane Field the GSW men's soccer team took on No. 11-ranked Lander in their second Peach Belt Conference game of the season.

The game was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed due to heavy rain.

The rain couldn't stay away from Hurricane Field on Monday afternoon as the game went on. The field was evenly used by both sides until the 23rd minute when Landers Michael Johansson slipped in a goal.

Next in the 30th minute, off an assist from Clement Dauchy, Vincent Machado Da Luz found the upper right corner of the net. To finish the half, Machado Da Luz scored to make 3-0 lead over the Hurricanes.

The Bearcats continued to keep the goals coming in the second half from Chris Hobbs in the 67th minute with an assist by Kevin Durand. Then at 70:18 Lewis Blissett connected a header off a corner kick from Kevin Durand to score the fifth goal in the game.

The last goal of the match was by Chris Hobbs on a penalty kick, after a foul in the box by Avery Alderman at 75:21.

Hurricane goalkeepers Joe Cullip and Ryan Tucker came away with 4 saves each.

Overall record for the Hurricanes is now 1-4-1 and 0-2-0 in Conference.

The GSW men's soccer team will be back on September 27th at Hurricane Field to take on Florida College in a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
