Hurricanes And Patriots Play To Draw

AMERICUS - The men's soccer team played against Peach Belt Conference opponent Francis Marion University on Saturday afternoon. The game went into two over times with a null null score.

The Patriots started strong outshoting the Hurricanes 19 to 4 in the first half. With six of those shots on goal that was no problem for junior Joe Cullip.

The Patriots continued to have chances to score with 8 corner kicks in the second half. The defensive efforts of Jon McVaney, Marcus Diaz, Avery Alderman, and Pablo Lajeunesse along side Cullip kept the score null all going into the first overtime period.

In the first overtime, both teams came out battling. The Patriots had two shots compared to the Hurricanes one.

In the second overtime period, both teams had equal chances at the goal. Isaac Aviala had two threatning runs to goal but was unable to secure the victory for the Hurricanes. Cullip, a major threat to the Patriot strategy, ended up getting a red card which sent him out of the game. This was not a problem for keeper Ryan Tucker. He was able to add a save to the books.

The Hurricanes current standing is 2-9-3 and 0-7-2 in PBC. The Patriots are now 8-2-4 and 5-2-1 in the PBC. The men's soccer team will be back at home on Tuesday, October 28th at 3:30.
