Hurricanes Hover To A Tie

GREENWOOD, S.C- The Georgia Southwestern University men's soccer team brought a fight to Lander University. GSW took an early lead scoring three goals in the first thirty minutes of the game.

Senior Ron Calle got his third goal of the season by scoring the Hurricanes first goal from five yards out on the left side at the 6:43 mark. Twenty minutes later GSW got their second goal by Isaac Avila, assisted by Cesar Espinoza. Six minutes later Senior Cesar Espinoza gained his third goal of the season and GSW's third goal of the game, assisted by DJ Garrett.  

GSW went into the second half with a 3-0 lead. They were able to hold off Lander for thirty more minutes until the game took a turn. Senior goaltender Garrett Blamire saved three shots from Lander before one was able to make its way by him at the 74:50 mark. Eight minutes later Lander got their second goal with a shot from in front of the net. One minute later Lander scored their third goal to tie up the game with a header.

The game went into two ten minute overtimes and ended with a 3-3 tie.

Lander had a 27-7 advantage with shots but GSW's Garrett Blamire made 12 saves compared to Lander's goaltender who recoded to have saves.

GSW is back home on Friday September 26 at 3:30pm to play Florida College.
