Hurricanes Fade In Second Half At Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – Benjamin Kwast scored three-consecutive goals to lead the Francis Marion University men's soccer team past Georgia Southwestern, 4-0, on Saturday evening at Hartzler Field.

Kwast gave Francis Marion a 1-0 lead late in the first half when he scored from 10 yards out, straight on, in the 42nd minute, off an assist from Michael Eibl.

The Patriots took their one-goal advantage into the halftime break.

FMU put the match on ice when it scored three times in less than seven minutes early in the second period.

Kwast punched in the first two goals of the run when he scored at the 62:17 mark and again at 64:11. The final goal of the evening came from Pascal Magiera in the 70th minute.   

The Hurricanes fall to 3-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the Peach Belt Conference after suffering their eighth-straight loss. FMU won its fourth-straight match and improves to 9-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in PBC play.

GSW finished with one shot on goal compared to 12 by the Patriots. FMU held a 17-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Garrett Blamire saved eight in goal for GSW. Mike Warn stopped the one GSW attempt for FMU.

Southwestern travels to Point University on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
