Polly Scores Twice; Canes Can't Catch Barons

AMERICUS - Back-to-back goals from Silvio Polly brought the Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team back from a two-goal deficit, but it was Brewton-Parker College with the final goal Tuesday afternoon at Hurricane Field and GSW lost the non-conference match, 3-2.

Southwestern drops to 1-4-1 this fall while Brewton-Parker improved its record to 3-4.

The Barons put GSW in a hole early as they scored a pair of goals in the opening 17 minutes. Gabe Browning set up both scores with his first assist coming to Carlos Lora at the 5:59 mark and the follow up going to Borja Gonzalez in the 17th minute.

GSW cut the lead in half five minutes later when Polly converted a penalty kick for his third goal of the season. The Hurricanes trailed 2-1 at halftime.

In the 51st minute Polly evened the score when he took a pass from Chris Steinwachs turned and fired over BPC goalkeeper Josh Queen.

The jubilation lasted all of 135 seconds for the Hurricanes as Browning delivered the game winner into an open goal as Lora was able to make the long cross after GSW goalkeeper Joshua Swift came out to make a play on Lora.

The Hurricanes finished with a considerable lead in most stat categories, including a 29-15 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Swift made three saves and Queen stopped 10.

The Hurricanes open Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday against USC Aiken at 3:30 p.m.
