Heavens Open and Saints Escape, 2-1

AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team dropped a close match to the Flagler College Saints, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at a soggy Hurricane Field in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both schools.

The first half was a stalemate with both teams controlling the ball evenly. Flagler broke through in the 61st minute taking the lead 1-0, the Hurricanes answered quickly as Chris Salamatou punched a one-timer inside the right post off a errant header from the defense in the 66th minute to briefly tie the match. Flagler responded just over two minutes later with the game winner ending the Hurricanes chances for an upset over the reigning Peach Belt Conference Tournament Champions.

The Hurricanes look to bounce back on Saturday in a 7 p.m. match at USC Aiken.
