Nationally-Ranked Columbus State Sweeps GSW, 9-0

COLUMBUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 13 Columbus State in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center in the season opener for both schools.

Steven Blythe faced 48th-ranked Marco Almorrin and went 4-6 in his first set at No. 1 singles to almost give GSW a win but lost 6-1 in the second. Alex Canovas Ferrando faced off against 43rd-ranked Jorge Varges and put up a tough fight losing 6-3 in the first and 6-4 in the second.

Oliver Marshall and Blythe put up solid efforts in their doubles match but came out in an 8-4 loss.

The GSW men are 0-1 this season and head to Macon, Ga., to play NCAA Division I Mercer university at 2:30 p.m.
