Lady Canes Drop a Pair to Augusta State

It took 12 innings to decide the winner of game one between Augusta State and GSW Wednesday afternoon. In the end, the host Jaguars prevailed 2-1. Game two of the Peach Belt Conference matchup was shortened to five innings due to inclement weather. That was good news for ASU, who had manufactured two runs in the bottom half of the fifth to walk away with the 2-0 victory.

In game one, starting pitcher Brittany Milstid had one of her best performances on the mound this season. The junior from Columbus, GA, did just about all you could ask, going 11 innings while giving up one unearned run. ASU put together enough offense in the 12th to push across the deciding run and Amanda Howett (3-6) took the loss for the Hurricanes.

In game two, the ‘Canes had the bases loaded with one out in the top half of the fifth, but were unable to score a run. The two runs from ASU in the bottom half of the inning proved to be enough when inclement weather put an end to the contest. GSW starting pitcher Tiffany Milstid (1-3) went all five innings in the loss.

GSW Head Coach Eddie Ward was proud of his team's effort. Ward stated, "Our pitching and defense were excellent. The girls played extremely well." ASU improved to 23-7 overall while the Lady 'Canes fell to 13-19 on the season. GSW is back in action this Saturday, March 22 hosting Lander University. First pitch is set for 2pm.
