Lady 'Canes lose first two games on Florida trip

GSW dropped a doubleheader to Flagler College on Friday afternoon in St. Augustine, Fla. The Lady Saints took the opener 5-2 and won the nightcap 8-0.

The Lady 'Canes couldn't have asked for a better start to their four-game, two-day trip to the Sunshine State when the first five GSW batters reached base in a two-run first inning.  Unfortunately, that would be all the runs Southwestern would score on the day; despite outhitting Flagler 10-5 in game one.

Southwestern errors, GSW committed six in the game, helped Flagler answer with three runs in the bottom of the frame and single runs in the third and fourth innings to complete the scoring.

GSW starting pitcher Kimberlee Tolbert (0-3) took the loss allowing four runs - two earned - in 2.2 innings of work.

Shea Weaver, Gabby Buck and Nichole Griffin had multi-hit games for the Lady 'Canes. Weaver finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple and run scored. Buck and Griffin added two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, Flagler (11-10) scored a run in the first, two in the third and five in the fifth inning en route to an 8-0 victory.

The Lady 'Canes managed only two hits and committed four errors as the game was called after five innings of play.

Jessica Harris (0-1) took the loss, pitching four innings, allowing eight hits and three runs - one earned.

GSW (5-11) looks to bounce back tomorrow against Florida Southern in a doubleheader at the Flagler Invitational starting at noon.
