Lady 'Canes win at Albany State, 6-3

Freshman Megan Wilkinson hit her second home run of the season in the seventh inning - a two-run shot to left center - to give the Georgia Southwestern softball team some breathing room in a 6-3 win at Albany State on Wednesday afternoon. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to wet field conditions.

The win was GSW's sixth in seven games and pulls the Lady Hurricanes (8-9) within a game of the .500 mark.

Southwestern pushed across the first runs of the game in the third inning behind an RBI-single from Gabby Buck and a two-run double from Katie Wooten.

Albany State (3-4) answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

An unearned run by GSW in the fifth would prove to be enough for the win.

Wilkinson added the insurance in the seventh inning.

Lady 'Canes starter Mariko Nomura (4-4) evened her record by scattering five hits and allowing the three earned runs. She struck out five and walked two.

GSW outhit Albany State 10-5.

Wilkinson, Buck, Wooten and Heather Hodge had two hits apiece for the Lady ‘Canes.

Southwestern returns home to face Wesleyan College on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
