Lady 'Canes tally 23 hits, 18 runs in sweep of Albany State

ALBANY — Lyndi Duff was 3-for-4 with a grand slam and six RBI as Georgia Southwestern swept Albany State on Wednesday 8-3 and 10-0.

Heather Hodge joined Duff with three hits in the Game 2 shutout, and Katie Wooten and Brooke McLemore each drove in two runs. Megan Wilkinson added a pair of hits.

GSW (17-28) led 2-0 entering the fourth when it plated five runs, including Duff’s team-leading fifth home run of the season. She has 25 RBI on the season, also a team-high.

Hodge and Gabby Buck each had doubles, bringing Buck’s double total to 12 on the season.

Jessica Martin (5-8) got the win, allowing three hits to go with six strikeouts and no walks.

GSW turned two double plays, and the only other Albany State baserunner was caught stealing.

Wilkinson had two hits and two RBI to lead GSW in the first game as her fourth home run of the year tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth.

The Lady Hurricanes scored seven in the frame, and Mariko Nomura shut the door in the sixth and seventh innings as she improved to 6-16 on the season. She allowed one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk in the win.

Duff had three hits, and Hodge added two.

T’Shelya Bynum led the Lady Rams going 3-for-4 with a double and triple and a RBI; Kandis Banks had two RBI.

Ashia Meredith also pitched a complete game for Albany State, allowing two earned runs on 11 hits.

GSW is back in action on Friday when it hosts Peach Belt foe Armstrong Atlantic. First pitch of the doubleheader is 5 p.m.
