Lady 'Canes 0-4 through two days at UWG Invite

The Lady Hurricanes dropped a pair of one-game affairs on Friday against Alabama-Huntsville and North Alabama.

UAH scored four runs in the third and made it stand in a 4-3 win. GSW (10-11) scored one in the fourth and two in the seventh. GSW had three hits, including Lyndi Duff's two-run home run in the seventh.

Mariko Nomura (4-5) pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and four runs, with only one being earned.

GSW fell behind 5-0 against UNA before scoring four in its final at-bat on three-consecutive hits from Duff, Katie Wooten and Megan Wilkinson and a couple of wild pitches.

Wooten and Wilkinson each had three hits, and Gabby Buck had two.

Jessica Martin (2-5) allowed five runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

On Saturday, the Lady Hurricanes opened with a 5-0 loss to the invitational hosts, West Georgia.

Gabby Buck went a perfect 4-for-4 in the losing effort. Lyndi Duff added a pair of hits.

Mariko Nomura (4-6) took the loss, allowing the deciding run in the fourth inning. Nomura went five innings, scattered five hits, struck out two and surrendered the one run.

Southwestern then lost to West Alabama, 7-2, to wrap up the day.

Brooke McLemore led GSW from the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. She drove in a run and scored a run.

Starter Jessica Martin (2-6) gave up five runs (three earned) in four innings of work to get the loss. 

The Lady Hurrianes play No. 14 Nova Southeastern and Barry tomorrow morning in the final day of action at the UWG Invite.
