Tough Road for Hurricanes

Valdosta, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern's Softball team traveled to Valdosta State on Tuesday afternoon to participate in a doubleheader. Pitchers Brianna Hancock and Maci Fletcher were able to secure the sweep for Valdosta State.

GAME 1: VS 4 GSW 0

The Lady 'Canes were held to only one hit by Allison Pastor during the top of the second inning. The inning finished with Keri Tompkins reaching on fielder's choice, but Pastor getting out at second.

The following inning is when Valdosta State made the first offensive attack. Heather Robinson sent a ball over left field achieving a homerun and bringing in Hannah Strickland. The inning ended with two runs, two hits, no errors, and no one left on base.

The next two innings batting for GSW were fast three up and three out. Valdosta State was able to capitalize with one more run in the fourth inning by Shelby Altman, being batted in by Heather Robinson.

Valdosta State took advantage of one more GSW mishap. Shelby Altman was able to reach first, but then on a throwing error was able to advance all the way home. The game finished Valdosta State 4-0.

Pitcher Ashley Cavender took credit for the loss, after pitching in six innings. Canvender allowed four runs, five hits, three walks, and one homerun. Valdosta's Hancock took the win after seven innings only allowing one hit and struck out seven batters.

 

GAME 2: VS 11 GSW 1

Valdosta State was able to capitalize early with six runs by the end of the third inning. April Collins, Brittany Smith, Courtney Albritton, Altman, and Robinson and a home run by Fran Johnson.

Up until the fourth inning, the Lady 'Canes had 2 hits. Nellie Moore added one after singling into the center field. Moore was able to advance after Miller singled out at first. Thrasher batted Moore in after singling into right center. This was GSW's first and only score over Valdosta State. The inning ended one run, two hits, no errors, and one left on base.

After a pitching change by GSW, Ashley Cavender was back on the mound. During which she gave up five runs and hits, and one walk. Valdosta's Collins, Brandi Blount, Chelsea Canara, Strickland, and Altman were able to reach home before the end. At the end one player was left on base.

Allison Pastor took the loss for GSW after pitching three innings and allowing six hits and runs, walking one, and one home run. Ashley Cavender made her appearance in the final inning for GSW on defense. Valdosta's Fletcher takes the win after pitching all five innings and only allowing five hits, one run and walk.

 

The Lady 'Canes continue the road games at Fort Valley State on February 21st. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
