Lady 'Canes Sweep Emmanuel

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team (5-7) swept Emmanuel College (1-4) Saturday evening at Lady 'Canes Field.

GAME 1: GSW 8, Emmanuel 2

The first three innings were left scoreless as neither teams had any runs. Emmanuel was able to score one run at the top of the fourth inning but the Lady 'Canes tied it up when Haley Warner had a hit out to center field, bringing Lauren Thrasher home to tie up the game.

The game really heated up at the bottom of the fifth for GSW when Emmanuel switched their pitcher. Graysen Sanders made it to first after getting hit by a pitch. Erin Steele substituted in for Sanders as a pinch runner and stole second while Kendyl Carver was up at bat. Carver also made it to first after being hit by a pitch. Rachel McElroy had a bunt and made it to first off an error from the pitcher, sending carver to second and Steele to third. Haley Goodson brought both Steele and Carever home after singling one to center field. Thrasher was up next and singled one to third, advancing Goodson and McElroy. With two outs and bases loaded Warner was up and was walked which sent McElroy home. Chelsea Littlejohn was also walked with bases loaded, sending Goodson home to score. GSW ended the fifth inning with 4 runs, 2 hits, 1 error by Emmanuel and 3 left on base.

Emmanuel got their second run at the top of the sixth and GSW brought in three. Carver hit a double down the left field line and scored after Goodson sent one to right field. Mary Beth Wilson went in to pinch run for Goodson and scored after Keri Tompkins scored her seventh home run in eleven games.

GSW finished the game with 8 hits, 8 runs, 8 RBIs and 0 errors.

Brittany Childs (2-0) took the win for the Lady 'Canes after pitching 7 innings. She gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, walked 4 and struck out 1.

GAME 2: GSW 4, Emmanuel 2

The second game was scoreless until Emmanuel scored two runs at the top of the third. GSW scored one at the bottom of the third when Carver scored off a wild pitch.

GSW scored three more at the bottom of the fourth after McElroy hommered one out to left field sending in Denney and Tompkins.

GSW finished the game with 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 RBIs and 1 error.

Haley Goodson (2-4) took the win for GSW pitching 7 innings, gave up 6 hits, 2 runs, walked 4 and struck out 4.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Tuesday to play Fort Valley State at 1 and 3p.m.
