Tierce Hits GSW's First Home Run Of Season In Lady 'Canes Double Digit Win

AMERICUS, Ga.- Hayley Tierce scored the first home run of the season for the Georgia Southwestern softball team in the first game of their double header against Fort Valley State on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Canes Field.

The Lady 'Canes moves to 5-3 after beating the Wildcats 10-1 in the first game and 15-0 in game two.

GAME 1: GSW 10, FVSU 1

 Fort Valley State started off the game with a run in the first off a double and GSW came back with four runs to take a three run lead. Erin Steele scored off a single from Mikela Barlow who scored off of Tierce's home run and Lacy Striblin scored of an error from the first baseman.

GSW's defense held off Fort Valley State in the second inning and then scored six more runs to lead 10-1.

Steele and Brittany Davis both scored off a single from Tierce. Barlow scored off a single from Striblin, Tierce scored off a grounder from Haley Goodson, Striblin scored off a sacrifice fly from Joshlyn Martin and Emily Smith rounded it out off a double from Julia Dunlap.

The rest of the game went scoreless and ended in five innings.

GSW's finished with 14 hits, 10 runs and 10 RBIs.

Tierce  (2-0) pitched three innings, had four hits, one run, walked five and struck out three.

Brittany Childs pitched two innings, had two hits, zero runs, walked one and struck out one.

GAME 2: GSW 15, FVSU 0

A nine-run explosion in the first inning carried the Lady 'Canes to a 15-0 win in five innings over Fort Valley State University in game two.

Ella Hawkins started GSW's streak off by stealing home. Barlow, Tierce, Martin, Nikki Graham and Bri Lewis all scored off wild pitches. Graysen Sanders scored off a sacrifice fly from Rebekah Davis and Hawkins and Barlow both scored again.

Sanders scored again in the second this time off an error from the pitcher and GSW went one another streak in the fourth.

Barlow doubled, sendind Allee Denney and R. Davis home and Tierce doubled moments later sending Hawkins and Barlow home. Striblin scored off a single from Graham to round off GSW's five-run stint.

Game two also ended in five innings and the Lady 'Canes finished with ten hits, 15 runs and two RBIs.

Savannah Carlisle (1-0) pitched three innings, gave up one hit, zero runs, walked zero and struck out one.

Goodson pitched two innings, had one hit, zero runs, walked zero and struck out zero.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road this weekend to play in the Palm Beach Atlantic tournament in West Palm Beach, Fla. They play Florida Tech on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Barry University at 1:00 p.m.
