AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern softball team is now 7-7 after falling to Columbus State University in their non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Lady Canes Field.
GAME 1: GSW 3, CSU 9
CSU had a 3 RBI home run at the top of the second and took a 6-0 lead over GSW after bringing in three more runs in the fourth.
Hayley Tierce scored GSW's first run off a single from Haley Goodson and Joshlyn Martin scored off a walk to fall behind 6-2 after four innings.
In the fifth CSU homered and Tierce scored for GSW to make the game 7-3.
CSU hit a third home run with one on base in the sixth to take a 9-3 win.
GSW's finished with nine hits, three runs, three RBIs and one error.
Goodson (2-4) pitched six innings, had 15 hits, nine runs, walked one and struck out one.
Brittany Childs pitched one inning and had no hits, runs, walks or strike outs.
GAME 2: GSW 2, CSU 5
CSU took a four run lead after the first inning with two singles and a 2RBI double.
The Lady 'Canes defense was able to hold off CSU for the next three innings and Martin scored off a single from Allee Denny to make it 4-1 after four innings.
CSU scored another run in the fifth and Savannah Carlisle scored off a wild pitch in the seventh to make the final score 5-2.
GSW finished with eight hits, two runs, one RBI and one error.
Childs (1-2) pitched seven innings, had 11 hits, five runs, walked three and struck out zero.
The Lady 'Canes play Brewton-Parker College in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
