Barlow Breaks GSW Softball Season Hits Record

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Mikela Barlow broke the Georgia Southwestern softball NCAA era record for most hits in a season in their doubleheader loss to Georgia College Friday night at the Peeler Complex.

Barlow had her 57th hit of the season in Game 2 to pass the old record of 56 held in a tie by Mason Moreland (2013) and Nichole Griffin (2011).

Game 1 saw another broken record when freshman Hayley Tierce re-broke the GSW season home run record with her 16th homer.

GSW is now 23-27 overall and 7-13 in the Peach Belt Conference while Georgia College moved to 32-14 and 9-9 in the PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 3, GC 9
Three consecutive home runs helped Georgia College push six across the plate in the third inning.

Tierce hit her homer in the top of the fourth to put the Lady 'Canes on the score board but a few GSW errors helped the Bobcats score three more runs in bottom of the inning.

The Lady 'Canes had three hits in fifth including Barlow with a two-run single to give GSW a six run deficit.

GSW finished with four hits, three runs, three RBIs and two errors.

Brittany Childs (L, 6-8) pitched 2.2 innings, had seven hits, six runs, walked one and struck out two.

Kaley Sikes pitched 3.1 innings, had two hits, three runs, walked three and struck out two.

GAME 2: GSW 2, GC 10

Georgia College started the first inning with four hits and two runs but the Lady 'Canes defense shut it down with a double play, Tierce unassisted to Allee Denney for the tag.

Barlow got the first hit for GSW in the third, advanced to second after Tierce was walked and scored off a single from Joshlyn Martin. Tierce scored GSW's second and last run of the game off a single from Denney.

Georgia College scored four more in the third and had three home runs in the fourth including a two-run homer to push four more across the plate and lead by eight. The Bobcats defense held off GSW and shut the game down in five innings.

GSW finished with six hits, two runs, two RBIs and one error.

Haley Goodson went 2-3 at the plate and pitched four innings, had 14 hits, 10 runs, walked two and struck out two.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Monday to play a non-conference doubleheader against Albany State starting at 4 p.m. for Pink Day.
