Emmanuel Sweeps Lady 'Canes

FRANKILIN SPRINGS, Ga.-Allee Denney went a combined 4-for-7 at the plate in the Georgia Southwestern softball team's doubleheader loss to Emmanuel College Wednesday evening at Lion's Field.

GSW moved to 14-18 overall and Emmanuel College is now 6-16.

GAME 1: GSW 0, EMMANUEL COLLEGE 2

Emmanuel scored in the bottom of the first off a balk and again in the third off a single to left field.

GSW recorded two hits and three errors.

Denney was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Shannon Gibson pitched four innings, struck out one, gave up six hits and two runs.

Brittany Childs pitched two inning and struck out two batters.

GAME 2: GSW 3, EMMANUEL COLLEGE 4

The Lady 'Canes came back stronger in Game 2 out-hitting Emmanuel College 8-6.

Denney scored in the second inning off a throwing error to give GSW a one-run lead. Emmanuel tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth with a one-run double to left center.

Sabrina Sieber singled to right field to score Joshlyn Martin and tied the game 2-2 in the sixth. The seventh inning remained scoreless and the game went into extra innings. Mikela Barlow scored in the eighth off a single from Matin to take a 3-2 lead.

Emmanuel was able to score twice in the bottom of the eighth and hit a walk off single to take the one-run win and complete the sweep.

Denney went 3-for-4 at the plate and Sieber was 2-for-3.

Kaley Sikes pitched 3.1 innings, struck out one and scattered two hits, one runs and walked three.

Childs pitched four innings and gave up four hits and three runs.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Saturday to play USC Aiken in a PBC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
