Softball Deepens Roster with Six Signees

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State softball program inked six incoming freshmen for the 2020 signing class as five of the six newcomers are all in state student-athletes.

Zoe Willis is a right handed pitcher from Harris County High School who received the 2019 All-Region 5A Pitcher of the Year and All-Region 5A Player of the Year awards who is a part of the East Cobb Bullets travel organization. Hannah Nolan, a first basemen from Providence Christian Academy, earned 2019 All-State Honorable Mention, 1st Team All Region 6 A-Private and Gwinnett 1st Team All County awards as she also plays for the East Cobb Bullets.

Ansley Duffey is a catcher from East Coweta High School, who's a part of the Firecrackers travel organization. She won two state titles (2017 & 2018) in high school and was named 2019 1st Team All-Region 7A DP, 1st Team All-Region 7A Utility and All Region 7A Honorable Mention. Hailey Pinette, an outfielder from South Effingham received 2019 1st Team All-Region 5A during her senior season who also plays for the Firecrackers travel organization. GSW rounds out recruiting with third baseman Chloe Sneed of Collins Hill High and the Florida native Jaelyn Flynn, of Pinella Park High School, who will be playing shortstop.

"I'm extremely excited to get this group of athletes in a GSW softball uniform," head softball coach Nicki Levering said. "Each one of them will make an impact and help the program to continue to grow in a positive direction. We want to be a premiere team in the Peach Belt Conference and I feel like these athletes will help us attain that goal."

GSW had a record-setting season in 2019 where they finished runner-up in the PBC Tournament. Levering and her Lady Hurricanes are excited to get back on the field as they return seven of the nine starters from last season. Due to injury, the Lady Hurricanes will be without PBC All-Conference and All-Region player Kayla Kerr as the senior outfielder suffered a season-ending ACL tear during the fall.

The Lady Hurricanes will be leaning on five seniors and seven juniors along with two NCAA Division 1 transfers in sophomore third basemen Katelyn Wood from University of North Florida and freshman catcher Morgan Mullin from Charleston Southern University. Of the five seniors, PBC All-Tournament Pitcher Shannon Gibson and PBC All-Tournament catcher/DP Sarah Beth King will be back in the lineup to lead the Lady Hurricanes in the circle and behind the plate.
