Errors Gives GSW Split Wins With Lynn

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- In Game 2 of the Flagler Invitational, a single into the right field with bases loaded by Katelyn Wood gave her two more RBIs as she helped the Georgia Southwestern softball team comeback to pick up a 7-6 win to end the day. The Lady Hurricanes fell behind early in Game 1 as they split the wins this evening.

Game 1: GSW 3, Lynn 6

Lynn got on the board early in the first with a three-run homer into the left field. The Knights were able to get on the board again the bottom of the third and fourth innings to go up, 5-0. In the top of the fifth, newcomer Kimmy Singer was able to get the Lady Hurricanes on the board with a RBI single in the left field as she pushed Grayson James across the plate for the lone score.

In the top of the seventh, Morgan Mullin stepped into a two RBI single to center field to see GSW cut the score in half. With two outs, Jacie Johns went out swinging as Lynn took Game 1 during day two of the Flagler Invitational. Hannah Holloway picked up her first lost this season pitching four innings with six hits, six runs and three strikeouts. Both Mullin and Singer went 2-for-4 but Mullin led with two RBIs as Singer had one RBI and one run.

Game 2: GSW 7, Lynn 6

A RBI single by Wood put the Lady Hurricanes on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Knights responded back hard in the top of the third as they scored four runs to take a commanding 4-1 lead. With bases loaded in the next inning, Lauren Kuerzi sent one right into the middle as she picked an RBI and pushed Johns across the plate to cut the score in half.

Kuerzi picked up her second RBI in the bottom of the fifth along with Grayson James, as they tied the score 4-4 throughout five innings. Lynn responded back quickly with a two-run home run to open the sixth inning as they extended the lead, hoping to sweep the Lady Hurricanes going into the bottom seventh.

Allyson Murdock started things off with a double as GSW (2-2) already had two outs on the board. One of Lynn's six errors helped Murdock score as Chloe Zoeller reached first base and picked up an RBI on the way. Lynn (1-1) then walked Johns as Singer reached base due to another error to make the bases loaded as Wood stepped on deck. Wood's two RBI single was knotted a walkoff as GSW stole Game 2 to split the wins. Shannon Gibson and Ansley Dean split the circle but Dean picked up her first win this season, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up six hits and two runs.

Up Next: GSW will take the short trip to play Albany State on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a double header starting at 2 p.m.
